Dear Donors,

The indigenous peoples of the Catskills have always visited sacred places. At some of these sites, they built lodges and gathered around sacred council fires to resolve their differences to heal and recover balance. The Blue Deer Center is such a place. The Center exists today to continue the sacred work begun so long ago and to bring forward many ancestral traditions. Thanks to your support, people are once again benefiting from this special place.

Supporting the People – Supporting the Traditions is our goal this year. The staff strongly encourages you to personally experience all that the Center has to offer. We have a group of enthusiastic and committed people leading the way to make this possible with the help of many courageous volunteers.

You, our donors, have given generously every year. The annual campaign that ended December 31, 2008 raised over $210,000. The financial support allowed us to pay for all the cost involved in owning this property, improvement projects, paying the staff to run the Center, and helping to bring Elders to the Land, and putting aside some funds for capital improvement projects in the coming year.

Some of you may have noticed that we have shifted our Annual Campaign dates. Our Campaign year used to run from June to May, but we have found for accounting and cross-department efficiencies that the BDC and all departments would convert to a Calendar year accounting. This has enabled us to all be working from one set of numbers.

We invite and encourage you to continue your generous financial commitment that enables us to support the many things necessary to create and maintain this important home.

The 2009 Annual Campaign goal is $268,500. This will go to support traditional Elders coming to the Center, the day-to-day operations of the Center, replace 2 roofs, and update our heating system.

You can make a check payable to Blue Deer Center and send it into the Center.
If you prefer to use our online donation. One can either set-up for one-time or for monthly support. See link at the top of the page.

Pledges and grants

Many families and donors give large grants using foundations.
You can pledge your support now and give your donation monthly or quarterly or in whatever installments work for you.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities

Consider making a gift in stocks, bonds or mutual funds.
