Assitant to the Center Director – Job Description 

The Blue Deer Center is seeking an Assistant to the Center Director to support our 2010 Program Season running from April to November. This position is new to the Center and therefore the responsibilities set forth below could shift as the program season progresses.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facility & Ground Management: mechanical knowledge including the ability to oversee a project from start to finish while keeping the Center Director abreast of the progress/needs/details. Could include some physical labor such as minor repairs or yard work/gardening.
  • Guest Services & Welcoming: ability and interest in connecting with individuals who come to the Center and with the residents in the region. This requires good listening skills, sensitivity to diversity, and ability to manage difficult situations.
  • Office Administration/Reception: basic skills in email/internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, answering phones, taking messages, filing, etc. as required per the Director’s needs.
  • Site Transportation: pickup/delivery of materials and supplies, Elders, volunteers, and program participants from airport, etc.
  • Additionally, there may be responsibilities in Program Management, Event Production, Community Outreach and Partnerships, Networking and Collaboration, Provider Relationships, and Kitchen Management.

The Assistant to the Director must be able to multi-task, take direction, and be willing to jump into a myriad of activities. An optimistic, adventurous, and flexible nature is important as well as a commitment to good communication, and a willingness to learn from challenging situations. Most importantly, this position requires stamina. Therefore, it is critical that the Assistant is able to pace him/herself for the length of the program season, which includes many long days and little personal time.
